What is a sweep truck?

Nov 18, 2025

Hello everyone, today we'll talk about road sweepers, also known as street cleaning trucks. Essentially, it's a specialized vehicle integrating multiple functions. Its core task is no longer the traditional manual sweeping, but rather achieving efficient and clean urban road cleaning through advanced mechanical and pneumatic principles. Its basic working principle can be summarized as a combination of suction and sweeping. The vehicle's underside is equipped with rotating side brushes or a main brush, which act like dexterous arms, collecting garbage and dust from the edges and corners of the road surface towards the suction port below the vehicle. Then, a system similar to a high-powered vacuum cleaner activates, generating a strong airflow that instantly sucks the collected debris into a large, sealed garbage bin inside the vehicle. To further enhance cleaning effectiveness and control dust, many road sweepers are also equipped with a water spray dust suppression system, spraying fine water mist during operation to effectively prevent dust from spreading into the air, achieving environmentally friendly cleaning.
The emergence of road sweepers has greatly improved the efficiency of urban sanitation work while also reducing the workload of sanitation workers. Compared to traditional manual sweeping, road sweepers can cover larger areas in a shorter time while maintaining higher cleanliness standards. Furthermore, their multi-functional design makes them suitable not only for urban main roads but also for various scenarios such as sidewalks, plazas, and airport runways. Some high-end models are even equipped with intelligent control systems, enabling autonomous driving or remote operation, further enhancing ease of use and safety. With continuous technological advancements, the functions of road sweepers are constantly being optimized, and future breakthroughs in energy conservation, emission reduction, and intelligentization are expected, providing more comprehensive solutions for urban environmental sanitation management.

Therefore, the modern road sweeper has evolved into a mobile sanitation workstation. Its main components include a brush system for collecting garbage, a fan system for generating suction, a garbage bin for storing debris, and a water circulation system for controlling dust. Its value lies in greatly improving the efficiency and cleanliness of sanitation operations, reducing manual labor intensity and potential safety risks, making it an indispensable piece of equipment for maintaining clean city streets and improving the urban environment.
